West Palm Beach

A commercial and business center of Palm County. Just across the Intracoastal Waterway to the east is the upscale community of Palm Beach. It dates back before Miami as a municipality.  Contrary to the name of these communities, there are not many accessible public beaches. The area does offer a few points of interest, however.

The Norton Museum of Art is one of the top rated art museums in the southeast. It boasts an impressive array of French Impressionism and Postimpressionist art. The museum also includes some 20th-century American works and Chinese artifacts.

The Kravis Center of Performing Arts offers a range of entertainment including theater, music, ballet and opera.

To the west is the fascinating wildlife park of Lion Country Safari. This 500 acre drive-through park allows you to a actually drive your car among wildlife including lions, ostriches, rhinoceros, giraffes, antelope, bison, chimpanzees and many other animals. Essentially this park is a cageless zoo where the visitors are caged within their cars. It is quite an experience to drive slowly through this area within feet of these animals where one may have to wait while thousand pound rhinoceroses cross your path!

The John D. MacArthur State Park is a 760 acre natural park of mangrove estuaries and pristine area.

Sport fishing is popular in the area both in the Atlantic Ocean and in Lake Okeechobee. Lake Okeechobee is the second largest freshwater lake in the US covering nearly 750 square miles. Marinas, boats, fish camps and guides for hire are available around this enormous lake famous for its bass fishing. Charter fishing boats are also available for sport fishing in the Atlantic including day trips to the Bahamas.
