Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale has long had a reputation for leisure and fun-in-the-sun-and-water. It has miles of gorgeous beaches along the Atlantic and well over a hundred miles of navigable waterways, canals and rivers that cut in and out of residential and town areas. Numerous restaurants cater to boaters who cruise the waterways and the number of lavish yachts per mile is very high indeed.

Fort Lauderdale is also an important business and cultural center. The business person will appreciate facilities and services provided in the revitalized downtown and newer uptown business districts, convention center, international airport, hotels and well established transportation infrastructure.

Within the downtown district is an attractive linear park with a very pleasant landscapedwalkway that runs along New River. From the Riverwalk one can stroll among tropical scenery and visit the Museum of Discovery and Science and the Museum of Art. Also, in this vicinity is the Broward County Center for the Performing Arts which presents a wide variety of national and international performances from Broadway shows to concerts by today's top artists.

A few blocks to the east is the notable shopping district along the famous gas-lighted Las Olas Boulevard. This area is known for its shops, galleries, fine restaurants and cafes.

Further to the east along Atlantic Boulevard is an area known as "The Strip". Here the mix of locals and visitors among the many hotels, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs create a lively beach-front party scene.

Port Everglades to the south is one of the larger cruise ship ports in Florida. From here many luxury cruises lines are available ranging from overnight cruises to "nowhere" to popular week long cruises to the Bahamas, and the Leeward and Windward Islands in the Caribbean.

Several trolleys are available for getting around and seeing the area. Another excellent way to see the area is from the many miles of picturesque waterways. River cruises and water taxis are a good choice from this perspective. Water Taxi services over a hundred miles of waterways, picking up passengers on call, from homes, clubs, restaurants, and attractions.

Bahia-Mar Yacht Center is a large marina from where deep-sea chart boats can be seen bringing back their fresh catch of the day. Day and night sightseeing excursions and fishing charters are available from Bahia-Mar.
