Clearwater
Beach has an excellent marina where one can find numerous charter,
party and rental boats for fishing, sailing, cruising, para-sailing,
and dolphin watching. Half-day and full-day fishing trips are available.
The marina also berths a large number of private boats and has transient
slippage for visiting boaters.
The center of Clearwater Beach is punctuated by Pier 60 - a long
and wide concrete pier jutting out into the Gulf of Mexico that
serves as a great fishing platform and strolling avenue for non-fishing
persons. Many
enjoy gathering here at sundown to watch the sun go down. Adjacent
to the Pier is a small park with facilities for the enjoyment of
children. Clearwater encourages and organizes activities at the
Pier including numerous outdoor musical performances.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a small but interesting aquarium
where one can see live dolphins, otters, and sea turtles. This nonprofit
facility is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release
of injured and sick marine mammals.
Just across the Clearwater Pass to the south is Sand Key Park
- a broad, generally less crowded beach. If you enjoy a beach with
a little less activity, this is the place to go.
Ride
along Clearwater Beach from one end to the other, or to downtown
Clearwater on the Clearwater Jolley Trolley! Only $1.00. Even
better, you can ride all day for the same dollar - of course, that's
only if you don't get off! Check out the downtown stores,
stop for an ice cream, go to lunch at Frenchy's, stop for a tour
at the Marine Science Center.
The Pinellas Trail is paved trail for walking, jogging, biking
and roller blading. This 34 mile trail traverses through many communities
including Clearwater and stretches from St. Petersburg to Tarpon
Springs.
Ruth Eckerd Hall on the east side of Clearwater is a first rate
performing arts facility that hosts orchestral, jazz, Broadway,
dance and children's performances. The exquisite acoustics and quality
performances offered at Ruth Eckerd Hall are a delight for audiences
of all ages.
Nearby St.
Petersburg is a great cultural place with numerous museums
and performance facilities. The Pier, a five-story inverted pyramid,
offers dining, entertainment, and an observation deck overlooking
Tampa Bay.
Tarpon Springs to the north is a quaint fishing village. This
community is quite proud of its Greek heritage and really shows
it off.
A little north of Clearwater is Innisbrook - a world-class conference,
sports and leisure resort that offers first-rate golf, tennis and
racquetball facilities.
The city of Tampa lies just
across Tampa Bay. A contemporary city that is home to the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, the Busch Gardens theme park, and exciting Ybor
City.
