Clearwater Beach

A popular destination on the west coast of Florida with a nice blend of tourist and family friendly activities and facilities.   Both young and old enjoy the very white and soft sand, warm waters and low surf.  With its volley ball courts, promenade, Pier 60 park and playground, 1,000' fishing pier, concessions, nearby restaurants and hotels, the area has a lot to offer.

Clearwater Beach was recently named the Best Beach Town in Florida based on an online vote arranged by USA today.

The area is part of a barrier island string of islands along the west coast of Florida.  Nearly all of the islands feature pristine fine white sand and blue-green waters.

Enjoy sunset festivities at Pier 60 as street performers entertain and local craftsman and artisans offer their wares.  These activities usually start about 2 hours before sunset.  Musicians, jugglers and creative entertainers perform to the delight of crowds.

Nearby is the Clearwater Beach Marina where many boating activities can be engaged including fishing charters - both large party boats and small groups,  sailing, para-sailing, dive boats, sightseeing excursions, speed boat rides, a pirate ship excursion, dolphin watching outings, dinner boat cruises and jet ski rentals.  Additionally, the marina offers first rate dockage and amenities for cruisers.

This is "the place" to go if you like an active environment with lots of activities and facilities.  Its wide, clean sand easily accommodate the many locals and visitors.  During peak sessions, parking can be a bit of a challenge, but will a little effort, space can always be found.

If all the activity, crowds and the hustle and bustle are not your preference, simply drive south on Gulf Blvd across the the Sand Key bridge to discover another fantastically pristine, but relatively quiet, Sand Key Park.  With less local attractions, this park offers natural beauty and simplicity without the crowds.  Amenities include picnic pavilions, showers and restrooms.

Most parking along the beaches are traditional metered (coin operated) or of the pay and display (buy parking tickets at machines in parking lot - credit cards accepted).
